I needed to get this out…

I’ve been struggling with sitting down and actually writing this out. There has been many times when it has been confirmed over and over again and every time it hits me like a ton of bricks. For the past 3 years A has had a continuous face rash around her mouth, nose, and eyes. Some days better and some days worse. As a test we took our 2 cats to a foster (friend) and did an extreme clean on the house. Well here and there she has been breaking out like she used to after having a very clear face. She breaks out when she goes into the garage (where the cats climbing houses and toys are), She broke out in the car when we took some old clothes to the goodwill. She broke out after playing hide and seek and hiding in the only closet I haven’t did a total overhaul on. And today…she broke out when we got out the halloween decorations & craft supplies from last year😦  These are all things that have not been cleaned of cat hair…

Since before her birth I have always worried about the cats. We had her at home so I made sure the bedroom was spotless and tried not to let the cats rub up on her. I had this worry because DH is allergic to the cats. When she first began her rashes 14 days young the thoughts of the cats crossed my mind. Wasn’t going away after taking out all sorts of foods, the thoughts of the cats again crossed my mind. The rash went away after vacations in hotels where we had to contact with cats, the thoughts of the cats again crossed my mind.

I admit, I have some guilt about this and that I kept it going for all this time however I also feel happy that we tried everything that we could before deciding to re-home members of our family. Every day I miss our cats and hope that they will find a new loving forever home soon. A asks about them all the time and gets very excited when she sees pictures of any cats that are them or that look like them. She misses them very much as well. I hope one day we will be able to have cats again but for now her immune system needs to heal❤

Coincidence or Magic?

CLEAR beautiful little face!!!

With no removal of foods… A’s face rash is practically gone!

The miracle cure seems to be that little wooden necklace you see in the above picture! Hazelwood!

” Hazelwood appears to work by creating a more alkaline environment in your body through direct contact with your skin, which may help to prevent and remedy many of the symptoms caused by acidosis (being too acidic) and by reducing free-radicals by having a high antioxidant effect through your pores.*  It is believed that the wood absorbs excess acidity from your body until a balanced PH is reached.  This has the potential to improve conditions caused by excess acidity, which can include skin issues such as eczema, as well as internal issues such as ulcers, acid reflux, heartburn, and teething pain.”

We have not yet removed it to test our theory and I’m not sure we will. Same with the amber necklace…she has never had issues with teething but has been wearing amber since she was 2 weeks fresh! Why would we take it off to test the theory on her two year molars?! That’s crazy talk!

As usual, we will keep on keeping on with what we are doing!

Updates

A few updates…

We finally took A for scratch testing for food allergies last Wednesday. Her results came back negative. She was checked for several fish varieties, peanut, tree nuts, egg, and dairy (21 in total). To be honest the test results shocked me. I was certain that egg and dairy would be huge! Our next step is really the only viable test. Eating.

I ate a hen egg the day after the test. She had no rash. I ate 2 hen eggs the day after that. She had no rash. (I however don’t tolerate eggs well and had a terrible tummy issue both days)

Today I mixed organic cow milk in her mashed potatoes for dinner. Two hours later and no rash. Normally her rashes come on quickly after eating the offending food. I didn’t eat any of the cow milk potatoes just so I didn’t taint my milk for her.

So, food wise, things are looking up!

Poop wise, not terrible but not great. She is going every few days but it at least is not hard for her to pass.

She still has her face rash which I do believe may be as the allergist suggests: perioral and peridermal dermatitis. Not food related from the research I have done.

Paleo Coffee Creamer

Whole 30 creamer!

This is the creamer I made this morning for my coffee. Coming from So Delicious French Vanilla Coconut Creamer this isn’t ‘heavenly’ but it is satisfying!

Edit: 4 days in and I finally figured out a trick! Strain strain strain all the chunks out! The creamer gave some froth and it was much sweeter!

Last night I soaked 2 cups of dates overnight in 2 cups water. Pureed this morning and then strained. So sweet! When I felt I needed my coffee sweeter I added a tbsp! Much better!

I may have mentioned it before – C is addicted to coffee.  But she likes it sweet and milky.

We tried adding butter and coconut oil as an alternative as seen in this post on Bulletproof Coffee but she didn’t like it.  We then tried adding an egg based on this post from Marks Daily Apple.  Again, she did not like the taste even with sugar added.

So I came up with a paleo, sugar-free version of a coffee creamer for her to use as I was not happy with all the sugar that she was consuming.  Dates provide a small amount of sweetness and coconut milk makes it creamy and provides some healthy fats.  The other wonderful thing about this recipe is that it is simple enough for C to make by herself whenever she needs to….
